What is venous leak of the penis?

For erection to occur, blood flow to the penis increases through pelvic & penile arteries. Simultaneously, the veins in the penis get occluded which results in retention of blood & engorgement of the penis. Inability of the veins of the penis to retain blood results in venous leak of the penis.

Some patients who do not respond to ED pills have venous leak of the penis. This can be diagnosed using penile ultrasound and CT-cavernosogram which is a special CT for detection of venous leak of the penis.

Fortunately, there is a novel, minimally invasive, outpatient procedure that restores normal erectile function by blocking blood flow in the leaky veins.
